Mon frere -- this issue is the one true introduction of the Clown Prince of Crime to the whole widening world. It is the first time his lunatic face in full war paint would have pierced the consciousness of the casual comic rack observer, the mother strolling to the shop counter, the young thug in the cigar store, the child aimlessly wondering what delight to have if only.... Of a sudden there he is, never before seen by the general public who encounter him unbought and unbidden, laughing, taunting, and carelessly baiting silly little know-nothing heroes.... Intrigue upon intrigue would blossom from this very publication, this maniacal grin breaking through the fog of 1942's warwary and weary culture, resulting in the cross-pollination of countless imaginations and seeds of unrelenting villainy sown throughout the generations: the greatest of the legendary villains, an echo of scaramouche and the court jester and venerable Mr.
The comic shown is the actual copy for sale. We do NOT use stock pictures. This is a complete, original copy of a very rare book. By way of grade, I'll call it VG given its age and associated defects, which are clearly shown and include pen markings on the cover and tape on the spine as well as some interior page imperfections common in a golden age VG coming up on its 80th birthday, but please understand what all experienced collectors know: grading is subjective, never objective, and even the High Priests of Slabbish Pontification form questionable tenets. Estimate of grade is offered for the sake of language alone, and not for the sake of argument or agreement with third parties. If not noted above or shown by the pictures, the book to the best of our knowledge possesses no repair, no conservation, no trimming, and no restoration.
Please await an invoice where more than one book is won.
